Richard Verga: Mayor

Beginning in 1960, Mr. Verga conducted and managed US Air Force research and development in space power and propulsion, while continuing advanced studies at OSU. In 1983 he joined the Pentagon's Strategic Defense Initiative. As Director of Key Technologies he oversaw advances in space power and propulsion, materials science, launch vehicles and weapons effects/countermeasures. In the late 80's he created a partnership between us scientists and their counterparts in the Soviet Union in developing space nuclear reactors; this was the first cooperation in high tech between the US and Russia during and following the days of the Soviet Union.

Subsequently in the State Department he pursued "Defense Comission", matching up US companies with their equivalents in the former Soviet Republics to assist in "Converting" their industries into commercial production.

After retiring from Federal Service in 1993, Mr Vega worked as a business development consultant representing a number of US and European companies wishing to establish commercial activities in the ex-Soviet Republics.

Mr. Vega returned to Ohio in 2001; he stayed as a technology consultant to the Air Force Research Laboratory, and was appointed to the Harveysburg Village Council in 2002. He was elected to that position in 2003; he was elected mayor in 2007 and reelected to that office in 2011.
